In 2003 I arrived in New York City ready for Broadway: with black & white headshots, upwards of 2 audition songs, a resume full of male and/or elderly roles, the face of a cherubic toddler, and the voice of a brassy retiree. Naturally, I turned to comedy.
Though my time at Vassar College may not have prepared me for The Business Of The Business, it did give me theater training, improv, lots of music making, and a nerdy adoration for interdisciplinary thought, breadth of study, and socio-linguistics.
While managing my growing fury toward the offensive language of casting, I worked on a variety of unique projects, including unscripted serials, large scale immersive theater, dating robots, and a show you might have heard of, High Maintenance.
I’ve spent over a decade advocating for changes in representation and inclusion in film, tv, and theater, through close examination of casting language. What began as a recurring evening of comedy at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, evolved into Famous Cast Words, my Emmy-nominated interview show that explores this problematic content. Produced by ALL ARTS, powered by The WNET Group, I hope the show offers catharsis for those in the industry, and awareness for those outside of it.
Current work includes Different Together, a podcast in collaboration with the department of Media Studies at Maynooth University in Ireland, my children’s YouTube series Kid Prompts, teaching at NYU Tisch/Playwrights Horizons Theater School, directing at Smith College, and other creative practice research activities.
I was recently added to the Fulbright Specialists Roster for a 2025-2028 term, and am available to institutions internationally for short term projects and consultations. Please get in touch if you work for a college, university, or other agency with a Fulbright affiliation, and would like to discuss collaboration!
When not in a classroom, on a stage, in front of a camera, or at my drawing board, I can be found volunteering at The 52nd Street Project.
